How to turn data into a line graph in excel

When you're working on data on excel, you may wish to convert it into a chart. Line chart/graph is one of the common and most frequent methods of representing data on the excel platform. It helps to show the trend of a commodity or thing over time, and therefore, it can be used in drawing conclusions and making comparisons.

On excel, there are multiple ways to achieve this.

Using the line graph feature

This is the simplest method to learn and to use when constructing a line graph on excel. Here are steps to be executed when using this method:

1. Launch the excel application by double-clicking the Excel icon on your device. Then, open a new workbook or open an existing document of your device by clicking Ctrl + O.

2. If you're working on a new workbook, you need to input the data and information to be converted to the graph. The leftmost column of your document should contain information displayed on the x-axis, while the corresponding column has information to be displayed on the y-axis.

3. Highlight the information to be converted into a line graph.

Note. Carefulness should be observed when highlighting the data to ensure all are captured.

4. On the ribbon, click on the Insert tab. Then, select the line on the charts section.

5. Depending on the data's nature, you can select the type of line graph you want to apply.

Formatting the graph

Your data will automatically be converted to a line graph. To format the line, follow these steps:

1. Click on the displayed line graph.

2. On the ribbon, click design, layout, or format depending on what you want to edit.
