How to convert Horizontal data into vertical data

Sometimes, you may need to transpose data horizontally or vertically. This eases the process of transferring data from columns to one column. Transposing data manually proves to be a tedious and time-consuming method that is prone to errors. Thankfully, Excel has an inbuilt tool that can be used to transpose data.

Using Paste Special Tool

Paste Special tool is an inbuilt tool in Excel that has several functions. One of the mighty use of this tool is to transpose horizontal data. Below are steps to follow while using this tool.

1. Open the Excel application.

2. Highlight the dataset you wish to convert from horizontal position to vertical position.

3. Go to the Home tab on the Ribbon, and locate the Clipboard section.

4. Under the clipboard section, click the Copy button. The selected section will be copied. Now, click where you want to paste the transposed data.

5. Click on the Home tab, and locate the Paste button. From the menu, choose the Paste special option.

6. From the dialogue box, check the Transpose checkbox. In addition, you can toggle on the All button.

7. Then, hit the OK button, and the selected section of your dataset will be transposed.
